Kilimanjaro Lemosho Route - 9 Days

Overview

Look, most people say Lemosho is the prettiest route on the whole mountain. In fact, it’s not just talk because you actually get these crazy wide views from all different sides as you climb. Specifically, on this 9-day version, we break the trek from Barranco to Barafu into two whole days. Consequently, you aren’t exhausted right before you try to hit the summit. Therefore, it is a smart move because it lets you rest up properly.

The Perfect Mix for Success

Furthermore, there’s a reason why so many people pick this route. Ideally, it offers the perfect mix of quiet trails, amazing scenery, and a really high chance of actually making it to the top. Additionally, since the traffic is low, you don’t feel like you’re walking in a crowd. Ultimately, it’s just you and the mountain, which is how the experience should be.

Itinerary

First, our team from Gosheni Safaris will meet you at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO). Afterwards, we will drive you straight to your hotel in Arusha to settle in. Once you arrive, your guide will give you a short briefing about the climb. Additionally, we will check your gear and clothing to make sure you have everything you need.

Furthermore, we will send you a detailed guide as soon as you book your trip. This guide explains everything about the weather, what to pack, and how to prepare. Specifically, it helps you get ready for the mountain before you even leave home. Eventually, you will feel confident and ready to start your adventure the next morning.

First, we will leave for the Londorossi Gate right after your breakfast. Specifically, this drive takes about two hours through the local scenery. Once we arrive at the gate, you will complete the official entry formalities. Afterwards, we will continue our drive for another hour to reach the Lemosho trail-head. Upon arrival, our team will serve you a fresh lunch before the trek begins.

Next, you will start your walk through a beautiful and undisturbed forest. Notably, the trail winds through lush greenery all the way to our first campsite. During this 3 to 4-hour hike, you can enjoy the peaceful sounds of the rainforest. Eventually, we will reach the camp where you can relax for the evening. Because the elevation is now 9,500ft, we recommend staying hydrated.

Eventually, we will reach the Shira Ridge before dropping down gently to the Shira 1 Camp. From this spot, you will get an amazing view of Kibo across the vast plateau. Because we are now at 11,500ft, the landscape changes into open moorland. Finally, our team will set up the camp so you can relax and enjoy the sunset.

We now continue down to the Barranco Hut at an altitude of 13,000ft. Here we rest, enjoy dinner, and spend the night. From the summit, we descend straight down to the Mweka Hut camp site and stop at Barafu for lunch. Mweka Camp is situated in the upper forest and mist or rain can be expected in the late afternoon. Later in the evening, we will have our last dinner claim our well-deserved sleep.
